Beware of AI Voice Scams
Protect Yourself: How to Spot and Avoid AI Voice & Video Scams
Technology is evolving quickly—and so are the tactics used by scammers. One of the newest and most convincing threats we are seeing in the financial world involves AI-generated voice and video “deepfakes.” These tools allow fraudsters to sound or appear like someone you know and trust, all in an effort to manipulate you into transferring money or sharing personal information.
As your trusted financial advisory firm, we want you to be aware of these threats and confident in how to spot them.
What Are AI Deepfakes?
- Voice Cloning: Scammers use artificial intelligence to mimic someone’s voice—often needing only a few seconds of audio.
- Video Deepfakes: Fake videos that look and sound like a real person but are entirely computer-generated or manipulated.
These fakes can be extremely convincing and may appear to come from a trusted advisor, friend, or family member.
What You Might See or Hear:
- A phone call or voicemail that sounds like your advisor, asking you to urgently move money or confirm personal details.
- A video message that looks like a loved one or financial contact promoting an investment or asking for help.
- A call from someone who “knows all the right things” about you—but something feels off.
How You Can Stay Safe:
Pause Before You Act
If you get a surprising request involving money, sensitive information, or urgency—slow down. Scammers rely on speed and pressure.
Verify Through a Known Channel
Don’t rely solely on what you see or hear. Call us back using the number you already have for us. Never respond directly to the number, email, or link in the suspicious message.
Be Cautious with Unexpected Videos or Voice Messages
Even if the video or voice sounds familiar, be skeptical if it is unsolicited and asks for financial action.
Use Strong Security Tools
Protect your devices with antivirus software, strong passwords, and multi-factor authentication.
